New York State Inspections

Is it Time for Your NYS Inspection?

A New York state inspection is required annually for all registered vehicles and when there is a transfer of ownership. You won't be able to renew your registration for another year without passing the state inspection, so it's important to stay on top of your expiration date and practice regular maintenance.

New York requires you to get a state safety inspection at a DMV-licensed inspection station.

How Can I Prepare for the NYS Inspection?

The best way to prepare for a New York car inspection is to practice regular maintenance throughout the year. Listen to the service interval recommendations found in your owner's manual, and seek a service center at the first sign of trouble. When you don't need to worry about whether your car will pass the NYS safety inspection or emissions inspection, it makes everything easier on you.
